What makes our Aronia Chokeberry Liqueur special
During production, we pay attention to a balanced composition of our ingredients according to an old family recipe, so that the liqueur also tastes of fruit and not of sugar or too much alcohol, but perfectly emphasizes the fruit taste. We attach great importance to a harmonious balance between sweetness, alcohol and fruit. The result: a liqueur that does not taste artificial or overly sugary, but elegantly highlights the fine notes of chokeberry.
As soon as you open the bottle, a pleasant aroma of chokeberry wafts around you.
What does our Aronia Chokeberry Liqueur taste like?
An aronia liqueur based on 100% aronia juice develops an intense and multi-layered taste that immediately captivates the senses. At the first sip, a strong, tart note hits the palate - the natural bitterness of the aronia berries is clearly noticeable and is reminiscent of dark berries such as elderberries or blackcurrants. This tart base is accompanied by a subtle fruit acidity that gives the liqueur a fresh, almost citrus-like liveliness.
However, the taste does not just stop at the acidity: Over time, a complex depth unfolds, reminiscent of the taste of ripe but slightly sour fruit that lingers over the tongue. A mild sweetness, created by the natural fruitiness of the chokeberry juice, rounds off the flavor without masking the character of the berry. It is a gentle sweetness that does not impose itself, but perfectly balances the tart and acidic notes.
The texture of the liqueur is full-bodied, but not too heavy, and a light, fruity finish lingers on the palate for a long time. This finish is pleasantly dry and allows the aromas of the chokeberry to be experienced once again in their pure, unadulterated form. The liqueur has a lively and unadulterated effect due to the high concentration of juice, which makes the taste particularly authentic - a true discovery for lovers of complex, fruity spirits.
Possible uses for our Aronia Chokeberry Liqueur
Our aronia liqueur is not only delicious on its own - best enjoyed ice cold - but also as a versatile ingredient in the kitchen and in the preparation of desserts. The strong, fruity taste of the aronia berry adds interesting accents to many dishes and transforms even simple desserts into something special.
A few drops can wonderfully enhance a pudding, cake or ice cream. The liqueur really comes into its own when combined with chocolate desserts, perfectly complementing the chocolatey notes with its tart fruitiness. A classic chocolate mousse is given an interesting, slightly tart nuance that harmoniously balances the sweetness of the chocolate. The liqueur is also perfect for adding a special kick to fruit jellies or jams - ideal as a gift or as a special ingredient for a festive breakfast.
Our tip: Serve the aronia liqueur in a liqueur glass, garnished with a small dollop of cream or a touch of vanilla sugar. This combination not only emphasizes the fruity character of the liqueur, but also provides a refreshing, creamy note that is perfect for a winter dessert or a special dinner.
It is also an exceptional base for cocktails and long drinks. Add an interesting fruit component to classic mixed drinks such as a mojito or a gin and tonic by using aronia liqueur instead of sugar or syrup. The liqueur also adds an exciting, fresh twist to a fruity sparkling wine cocktail or a spritz.

Botany and history
The chokeberry, often referred to colloquially as the chokeberry, belongs to the rose family (Rosaceae) and originally comes from eastern North America. It is now also cultivated in many other regions, particularly in Eastern Europe - for example in Poland, Russia and Ukraine - where it has developed into an important crop. It is also becoming increasingly important in Germany, both in fruit growing and as an ornamental plant.
Botanically, chokeberry is a deciduous, perennial shrub plant that can reach heights of between 1.5 and 2.5 meters. The plant grows upright, with dense branching, and often forms dense, bushy stands. The leaves are arranged alternately, oval to elliptical in shape, around 4-8 cm long and have a finely serrated edge. Particularly striking is the intense autumn coloration of the foliage, which turns bright shades of red and also makes the plant attractive as an ornamental shrub.
The chokeberry flowers in late spring, usually in May or June. During this time, white to slightly pink flowers appear in dense umbel panicles. Each flower is five-petaled and its shape is reminiscent of other members of the rose family. The flowers offer plenty of nectar and are therefore very popular with insects.
After flowering, the characteristic fruit-like bladders develop, which are often referred to as berries, but botanically belong to the aggregate bellows fruits. These resemble small apples in shape - which has also earned the genus the German name “Apfelbeere” (chokeberry). Depending on the species and variety, the fruits ripen from late summer to early fall (usually in August or September). The most common species in cultivation is the black chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa), whose fruits are almost black to dark purple in color. Less common are the red chokeberry (Aronia arbutifolia) with bright red fruits or the purple chokeberry (Aronia prunifolia), which is an intermediate hybrid.
The chokeberry is an extremely robust and adaptable plant. It thrives in both sunny and semi-shady locations, but prefers full sun in order to achieve a high fruit set and intensive coloration of the fruit. It has low soil requirements - it grows in sandy and loamy soils as long as they are well-drained and moderately rich in nutrients. One of the plant's particular strengths is its extraordinary winter hardiness: it can withstand temperatures as low as -35 °C without any problems, which makes it ideal for growing in harsher climates.
Aronia is particularly interesting from a nutritional point of view. The fruits are characterized by a high content of secondary plant substances, in particular anthocyanins and polyphenols, which are known for their antioxidant effect. Added to this are vitamins C, K and E, folic acid, fiber and tannins, which give the raw berries their typical tart taste. Due to these ingredients, chokeberries are said to have a variety of health-promoting effects - from supporting the immune system and protecting against oxidative stress to anti-inflammatory effects.
In practice, the berries are mainly used in processed form - for example as direct juice, tea, jam, fruit powder or dried fruit. Due to their intense, tart taste, they are rarely eaten raw. More recently, chokeberries have gained popularity as a so-called “superfood”, especially in the context of healthy nutrition and naturopathy.
In summary, it can be said that the chokeberry is not only interesting from a botanical point of view, but also impresses with its versatile use, undemanding cultivation and valuable health ingredients - a plant that is equally at home in natural gardens, orchards and plantations.
