description
Intense onion flavor for sauces, soups or meat dishes without tears.
Onions belong to the leek family. Depending on the variety, onions range in size from 2-3 cm for shallots with a slightly sweet aroma to 15 cm for vegetable onions with a very mild onion aroma. However, many varieties are pungent and have a high propanthal S-oxide content, which irritates the eyes and makes them water.
The onion is one of the oldest and most common vegetables and was already an important part of the diet in ancient Egypt; onion remains were even found as grave goods in Tutankhamun's tomb. For the Romans, the onion was a staple food and spread throughout Central Europe.
Onion powder is versatile and can be used in the kitchen for all dishes where you want a hearty onion flavor. Spice up soups and sauces with onion powder or simply add a pinch of onion powder to ratatouille or roast onions for an even more intense flavor. Minced meat dishes also benefit from the addition of onion powder without the hassle of chopping onions. However, onion powder with oil as a marinade is perfect, as it makes the meat even softer and more tender.
